Hermetically Sealed Transformers
These transformers are designed with a completely sealed tank, preventing the ingress of air and moisture, which avoids sludge formation and oxidation of the dielectric fluid.
Hermetically Sealed Transformers
TMR Transformers manufactures hermetically sealed transformers built with a completely sealed tank that isolates the insulating oil from the surrounding atmosphere. Because no air or moisture can enter, the oil does not oxidise or form sludge, so its dielectric strength is preserved and the transformer delivers a long, maintenance-free service life. There is no conservator tank or breather to service.
The sealed tank accommodates the oil's thermal expansion either through flexible corrugated fin walls or an inert nitrogen-gas cushion above the oil, keeping the unit fully protected in harsh, humid, dusty or chemically aggressive environments. Our hermetically sealed transformers are offered in three-phase configurations at 50 Hz or 60 Hz with ONAN, ONAF and AN cooling, and primary voltages configured to customer requirements. Each unit is stringently inspected and precision-engineered for dimensional accuracy and leak-tight integrity.
These transformers are well suited to chemical and process plants, coastal and high-humidity sites, and large power projects where reliability and minimal maintenance are essential. As a manufacturer, TMR can match ratings, fittings and protection to your application. Request a quote for a hermetically sealed transformer.

Frequently asked questions
- What is a hermetically sealed transformer?
- A hermetically sealed transformer has a completely sealed tank that isolates the insulating oil from the outside air. Because no air or moisture can enter, the oil does not oxidise or form sludge, preserving its dielectric strength and giving a long, maintenance-free life.
- How does a hermetically sealed transformer handle oil expansion?
- With no conservator tank, the oil's thermal expansion is absorbed either by flexible corrugated fin walls or by an inert nitrogen-gas cushion above the oil, keeping the unit sealed throughout its operating temperature range.
- What are the advantages of a hermetically sealed transformer?
- Because the oil never contacts the atmosphere, these transformers need no oil filtration or breather maintenance, resist moisture and contamination, and last longer in harsh, humid or chemically aggressive environments.
- Where does TMR recommend hermetically sealed transformers?
- They are ideal for chemical and process plants, coastal and high-humidity locations, and large power projects. TMR manufactures them in three-phase configurations at 50 Hz or 60 Hz with ONAN, ONAF or AN cooling and voltages to your specification.
